Kim Jong-Il dies – Where do we go from here?

As you probably know by now, North Korea lost their proud dictator Kim Jong-Il over the weekend. His passing came as a surprise to many and raises many questions about the future of this tumultuous nation. The U.S. is watching very closely as the likely successor, Kim Jong-Un (son of the deceased) prepares for the transition in leadership. Kim Jong-Il had ruled North Korea for 17 years after succeeding his own father Kim Il-sung.

Many countries, especially South Korea, are very concerned about what may happen next. Not a lot is known about Kim Jong-Un or what he may decide to do.

While the future remains a mystery for North Korea, it seems to me to be an opportune time to review a little about the history of this controversial country. I’ll start with a very informative info-graphic I found a while back which explains why North Korea is the world’s craziest country:
