Amusing news from the stupid world of media censorship: Foster the People’s hit song “Pumped Up Kicks” got some lyrics trimmed. I’m sure most of you know the song since it is on the radio ALL the time (don’t get me wrong, it is a great tune) but you may not all have heard the new censored version. Now songs get censored all the time of course. But the interesting element here is that the guardians of our ears were not removing anything vulgar, obscene or offensive from the song. No curse word, drug reference or sexually explicit message was graciously cleaned up by these airwave police. Instead the words that were removed from this hit song in order to make it acceptable for us to hear were “gun” and “bullet”. Seriously, that is what they took out. It is now inappropriate to mention firearms in a song just as it would be to drop an F-bomb. This is crazy.
